The Deepings Today
Just outside the boundary to Cambridgeshire and just inside South Lincolnshire, the Deepings are not far away from a few larger towns and cities.
Shops and businesses
Shopping – The high street running between Market Deeping and Deeping St James provides residents and visitors with a wide choice of independent shops to explore. Here is a place where you’ll discover designer clothing, artisan foods, retro gifts and vinyl records, as well as household goods and something to take home for your pet.
There is a shopping precinct situated behind the high street which can be accessed from the market place via two ‘walk through’ arcades. These lead to the town’s award winning butchers shop, cake and coffee shops, pet shop, dry cleaners, card and charity shops, hairdressers, barbers and newsagents, as well as a larger retail outlet. You will also find the town’s well kept public toilets. The Town market is held every Wednesday in the shopping precinct car park.
Always popular with residents and a draw for visitors, at the eastward end of the high street you will find the town’s antiques and craft centre – an Aladdin’s cave of antique pieces, vinyl records, furniture, works of art and items for crafting.
On the other side of the road, past the Library, you’ll find the well stocked Branch Brothers DIY store and yard. Crossing back over, there is a kitchen and bathroom showroom, beautician and pizza takeaway.
Walking along Church Street, opposite the town bridge, you will discover the Post Office, the Empire gym, car wash, beautician and tattoo artist, plus a range of health specialist services, including an optician, chiropractor and Piper Physiotherapy, as well as the British Heart Foundation charity shop, Chesters bistro and Tonino’s Italian restaurant.
If you’re thinking of moving home, or just browsing, there are a number of estate agents to view the latest property on the market.
Supermarkets and convenient stores
For general groceries, you will find our local Tesco at the top of Godsey Lane, opposite the John Eve Field.
For convenience, there is a Spar shop on Godsey Lane and a Co-Op store along the Deeping St James Bridge street. There are also three smaller precincts of shops on Rycroft Avenue, Manor Way and along Thackers’ Way.
Eating Out
While shopping or socialising – there are plenty of places to relax and refresh in one of our many cafe’s, cake and coffee shops, such as Cinnamon, Lilly’s Tea Room and bakery and Godsey Lane Coffee. There’s also Notty’s wine bar, where you can enjoy a drink, a snack and some lively conversation with the regulars.
Or – for something more substantial, we have a raft of restaurants, pubs and diners. The Deepings boasts two award-winning fish and chip shops – both renowned throughout the area. The Boundary and Linfords shops both have excellent ‘eat-in’ facilities.
There are many pubs, inns and bistros that offer food in the town centre and in the residential areas of Deeping St James and the village of Frognall – some with riverside dining facilities. Including The Stage Hotel, The Bull Pub, Notty’s wine bar, The Iron Horse, Chesters, Tonino’s Italian Restaurant, the Taj Mahal and Maharanis Indian Restaurants, in Deeping St James.
