What is Love Deepings?

The Deepings and its surrounding local villages are the smallest of four key settlements in the South Kesteven District. There is a strong sense of community and enthusiasm for supporting our local economy, however we needed a centralised platform that communicated the value and benefit to residents and visitors. To remedy that – the Deepings Business Community launched Love Deepings in May 2019.

Within just one year, the Love Deepings brand has become a familiar beacon within the community which signifies a unified approach to boosting our local economy – with members of the Deepings business community, their customers, and the people who deliver our valued community services, working together to make the Deepings a great place to live and work.

Why we launched Love Deepings

  1. to raise awareness of the local services, and wide range of businesses available
  2. to highlight the value of SUPPORTING LOCAL and how it helps build a sense of community
  3. to encourage increased patronage for local services and businesses
  4. to support the business community across the Deepings and villages, and to strengthen our voice at local government level and with local stakeholders.
  5. to encourage local businesses to join forces, engage with local initiatives and campaigns, in a bid to generate more local support that will benefit the local economy

Why support local?

It isn’t always the easiest or most convenient option to visit a local independent business rather than a large national out of area or online business. However, there are plenty of ways you can support your local economy in the Deepings and villages by thinking local first!

So, the next time you need a product, service or supply, please do consider LOCAL first. Local jobs, local charities and events all benefit from people buying services and products, and donating to a good cause. Supporting LOCAL helps sustain a vibrant community, with more local services, more choice and encouraging more businesses to set-up and extend the offering.

The benefits of supporting local businesses

There are far-reaching advantages for deciding to support local. By supporting local businesses, you are supporting your local economy.

In lean times, consumers aim to save money and eliminate many or all luxuries. From cutting back on extras to more prudent spending and budgeting, people inject a degree of caution into their financial habits. In such a volatile environment, smaller, local businesses count on your custom to stay afloat. Every transaction is precious to them.

So when you are deciding where to spend your hard-earned pounds: whether it’s a car repair; gift for a friend or a trade service, consider how turning to local businesses within our community can benefit you, our community and economy. This will help to sustain the services and goods they offer and provide more local jobs for more local people.

How supporting local expands across the community

Local businesses are more likely to use other local businesses, such as electricians, plumbers and carpenters, as well as local producers and retail.

  • Money spent locally is more likely to be reinvested locally, and pass through more local hands. This benefits from the ‘local multiplier’, where the value of local money continues to multiply in real terms (115% as opposed to 23% when spent nationally).
  • Small businesses employ more than 13 million people across the UK, and local businesses are more likely to provide job and training opportunities for local people.
  • Local businesses create more local jobs
  • Researchers have found that local non-profit organisations receive on average 250% more support from small local businesses because they live within and care about their local community.
  • Many people assume online is cheaper, but that is often not the case. Many local businesses strive to offer comparable and competitive prices. Personal customer service and professional advice is also given, something often lacking from online suppliers.

How a strong local economy benefits everyone and the environment

In addition to helping build our local economy, there are other benefits that come from supporting businesses in your local community.

  • Local businesses are owned and operated by your neighbours! They care about and are invested in the well-being of your community and its future.
  • Local businesses are more accountable to their local communities and provide a more personal service. They are very dependent on repeat business, word of mouth and prioritise giving quality customer service.
  • Supporting local businesses is good for the environment because they often have a smaller carbon footprint than larger companies.
  • Thriving local businesses keep our community unique, providing more bespoke – ‘one of a kind’ type businesses, which distinguishes the character of the Deepings and encourages more people to set-up businesses locally.
  • They also provide social spaces, where people can come together (when we return to a normal lifestyle).
  • Now more than ever we value those social spaces. Would it not be terrible if these landmark businesses were gone forever, due to lack of support.
  • Local businesses often support local projects, events and festivals, and help build our community spirit
